Are you an innovator or just a lame excuse maker? Earlier this week, Mitch Ditoff posted an awesome blog titled ” The 100 Lame Excuses for Not Innovating”. After reading through the ENTIRE list, it made me realize how often I hear these excuses from friends, family, companies, and everyone in between.
How about this? I challenge you to take a look at the list (All the way through) and see what excuses are currently holding you back from innovating and ultimately making something happen.
In the last nine months or so, I’ve learned more things and experienced more life changes than I had pimples during puberty. That’s what following your gut and jumping into risk with both feet does. Why so many life changes? I started my own business – a creative communications company.
In truth, it seemed like a crazy idea. In this economy? Especially when I started to count how many other little creative agencies and studios there are in my city. There’s a lot of them. But, I did it anyway.
Don’t wait until tomorrow. Things are never going to be just right. If you are waiting for that perfect moment, you will be forever waiting. Stop waiting and get started now. Drop everything and get going. It will be a journey, but with each step and each day you will be making progress towards your goal. And if you keep at it, you will grow stronger and stronger until that day when you wake up and you’ve made it.
Are you an entrepreneur or do you aspire to be an entrepreneur? Do you have that raging itch that keeps you up all night to quit your job and go out on your own? If this is you, I say make the leap and quit that boring job – I bet it is holding you back anyways.
I have no idea where you’re at or what is going on in your head now, but just maybe you are wondering what entrepreneurship is like and what you’re going to need to be able to do to succeed.
Do your weeks ever just feel out of whack? Things keep popping up, people are asking to meet with you, and you feel like you can’t get anything done? Don’t feel bad if this is you, lots of people suffer from this. I like to call these weeks “dysfunctional weeks” – weeks where things aren’t operating as they should.
How should your weeks be operating? How about smooth, productive, and healthy? Think of it like a car, if your car is not operating as it should what do you do? You take the time to bring it into the shop to get fixed right? Now if your “week” is not operating as it should, shouldn’t you take the time to bring that into the shop to get fixed as well?
It’s time that you follow through with your stated intention with action. Make it happen. Shut your mouth, quit whining, and start doing.
Put together your action steps, layout a plan, gather the team, and start doing. See, what happens when you fail to act upon them, all you are doing is bringing yourself down and preventing others from acting. Stop this crap.
Are you having trouble capturing tasks, getting organized, collaborating, and ultimately getting stuff done? Why are you having these problems? Is it you or have you just not found the right tool yet?
About 9 months ago I was having these problems and I couldn’t figure it out. I was pissed off, I had five or six tools all doing different things, and I had notes and papers all over my office causing it to look like a train wreck. I was a total mess and I was not ok with it.
