What’s up with all the pride these days? If you don’t believe me, look around you. Everyone is all about themselves and what’s in it for me and when can I get it – especially now, with this whole social media revolution. What ever happened to what’s in it for you and how can I help?

How much different would things look if we boxed up our pride and put it away? If we started focusing not inward but outward? Would this not be a game changer? What do you think we could do as a nation or as a world? I would bet that together we could make some pretty monstrous shifts and changes, but that’s just me.

Where do you store your stories? Are they in the closet, locked away? Or, are they being embraced and used to honor and Glorify God. I think to often we take our stories and throw them in the closet, lock the door, and throw away the key. We think to our selves, if we just put this in the closet, lock the door, and throw away the key, then we will never have to deal with it again. We say things like, let the past be the past. I understand why we do this, we want to forget about it. That traumatic event that totally changed our life, we want it to disappear.

The interesting thing? The key always show up. What I mean is that we never actually let go of our stories. They creep up on us out of know where. They sit in the back of our minds. They knock and knock and knock. Eventually we get so annoyed that we have to let them out. Do you think it’s God knocking. Maybe God is saying, “it’s time that you use My story to honor me, do not be afraid for I will be with you.” Have you locked away your story? Is it time that you let it out? Have you ever thought about sharing it? Remember, it’s God that has allowed you to live that story that you are locking away in the closet.

Fear. What a interesting thing we all face. We all fear things. Some people fear heights, some people fear spiders, and some people fear pretty much everything that lives, eats, and breathes! The truth? We all fear something. Fear is to be afraid or feel anxious or apprehensive about something. What do you fear?

Do we really have anything to fear, if we only fear the Lord? Deuteronomy 6:13 says, Fear the LORD your God, serve him only and take your oaths in his name. What if we began to live by this verse? What if we only feared the Lord our God? What if we all agreed that it was unacceptable to fear one another? That being judged was just not ok. Everyone was accepted and I mean everyone. We cut the crap and started loving one another as Christ loved us. I think we can we agree that we should not fear each other? This is ridiculously. Think of the fear that impacts our daily lives; what people wear, what they do to their bodies, the dreams they give up on. To me this is unacceptable.

God is allowing me to create a great story. It’s through this story where I continue to find hope, peace, and redemption.  I’ve experienced and tasted all the things of this world. What did I find? I found Christ our saviour, the saviour of the world. What did I learn? I learned that it is not through worldly things that we find the things we seek, rather it’s through our faith and trust in the Lord that we find these things.

What’s wrong with us? Why do we continue to speed up, only to forget to slow down and ultimately end up on our heads.

I remember when I used to race professionally, my Dad would always say, “son, you need to slow down to speed up.” Then I would go out on the track and end up on my head. I was trying so hard that it was actually hurting me. Literally (broken bones) hurting me. Not until later in life have I begun to realize how powerful a statement this was. Not to just me, but to our whole society.

Did you know hamsters can average 6 miles per night in a hamster wheel? Imagine running in a hamster wheel for 6 miles. Would you not feel like you were stuck? Would you not feel like there was no way out? How would you slow down?

Have you ever watched side line to a hamster in his wheel? He’s running and running and running to eventually loose control of himself. He lands flat on his belly, and round and round he goes. After about 10-20 spins he fly’s out of the wheel and onto his head. Thankfully we spread those soft chips for him to land on! How fun was this to watch when you were a kid?

A couple of years ago we were out for our Christmas dinner and we ordered oysters, clams, scallops, mussels, and I can’t even remember what else. All I can really remember after too many glasses of wine is that we had an awesome time. You know those really expensive restaurants that there is no way you can order a hamburger and a fry? This was one of those restaurants. Instead they have these really difficult menus to order from. Especially if you have never been to a fancy restaurant before.

Hi, my name is_______________.

Hi, my name is Danny Beckett and I am a sinner, a hypocrite, a liar, and a miserable failure of a human being. I am not perfect. I am not beautiful. I am broken and sinful just as my fellow brothers and sisters, and I am traveling the road of continuous brokenness and revival. I have made mistakes, I have taken risks, I have hurt people and relationships, and yet I have a God that loves me and thinks I am beautiful. He loves me for who I am; broken and sinful. This is the only thing that will never change.

You’ve got to be hungry

Does your wife prepare marvelous meals for you? Can you taste Grandma’s home cooked meals? The ones that make you leave work early because your mouth is pouring over like waterfall. Have you ever been on a long run and afterwards your hunger is so intense that you will eat about anything? I just love it when I can come hungry. I think the only way to really enjoy a meal is to come with an appetite, come with a hunger. And perhaps you need to experience some faulty cooking to know the cooking that does satisfy.
