How to stop caring what thrash talkers think about you

Do you care to much about what people think of you? Do you care so much that it paralyzes you?

I get this. Sometimes when I hear the things that people say about me, it gets me down. But then, I get myself right back up and I think to myself, “why do I care so much about what these people think of me?” I really don’t, I just think that I do.

When I do search for myself or a search around some of the ventures I’ve started in the past, I can find some pretty negative things. Do I allow this is affect me? I shouldn’t and most of the time I don’t. It takes time though and it’s a process of developing “thick skin”. Dave Ramsey talks about all the negative mail he gets everyday – piles of it. James Altucher also talks about all the negative comments you can find online about him.

Here’s the deal. The higher you reach in your leadership and influence, the more people are going to talk about you- both positive and negative. You have to choose what to listen to.

So what do you do with all this crap out there about you? Nothing. Let it happen and let it make you stronger. It is going to hurt, but eventually you will get to a point where you really don’t care. In fact, you might even find it humorous and entertaining – my wife and I laugh all the time about these things.

Don’t stop doing what you do because people have some negative things to say about you. Keep doing it. Don’t revert to doing something else just because people aren’t nice. This is exactly what they want to happen – for you to submit to them and fail. These people are nothing in my book other than motivators. Let them be the same in your book.

The other thing you need to do is hang around people who appreciate you and respect you for what you have to say right now. I’m not saying yes men, just people who love and care about you enough to not talk thrash.

Find good, positive people who inspire you, challenge you, and are always there to lift you up. And for the ones that talk trash….let them be thrash.

——-

How about you?

What do you do when people talk thrash about you?

It’s one thing to set goals, it’s another to take action

Every year, right around this time everyone starts setting goals. Not everyone I guess, just the people who want anything out of life.

I really enjoy the process of setting goals. In fact, this is what I’m working on this week. I’m taking this years (2011) goals and giving them a good audit. What went right, what went wrong, and what can I do better this coming year.

2011 was a good year for me. Actually, it was an awesome year for me! It was a year of reflection, growth, and tapping into who God wants me to be. I spent time going in one direction, turned around and went another, and finally after years of trying different roads, I feel like I’m going in the right direction. 2012 is going to be a great year….I can feel it!!!

If you’re afraid to travel down different roads, you might not ever find the road you’re supposed to be traveling down.

With a new year just ahead, people get fired up. They want to put the past year behind them and start fresh.

Note: Whether it was a good year or a bad year, take it and build on it. Don’t let it go to waste.

People set goals for everything:

I want to lose weight.

I want to exercise more.

I want to further my relationship and walk with God.

I want to read more.

I want to start a business.

I want to raise money for my startup.

I want to be a better parent.

I want, I want, I want.

The problem with setting goals is that you can’t just set goals, you have to take action. The difference between someone who accomplishes their goals and someone who doesn’t, is action. And not just “one time” kind of action, daily action that moves you closer to reaching your goals.

What is a goal if it is never accomplished? How about just a goal. Don’t just set goals, take action and move your goal down the field and into the end zone where it belongs.

Make 2012 a year of action. Go.

Don’t wait for your first win to start sharing your thoughts

I am confident you’ve thought this before, “Does anyone really care about my thoughts before I get my first win?” No, no one cares. Just kidding. People do care. But, the only way to get them to listen and care is for you to grow some balls and get out there sharing. If you wait for your first win, you could be waiting forever.

A win is gained through consistent confidence. If you can consistently be confident, even in the times when you feel like you are a loser, you will eventually wake up one day with a win. A win doesn’t happen overnight.

These pathetic thoughts are in your mind. You need to extract them before they kill you. You’ve convinced yourself based on what you’ve seen, read, and listened to that you can’t share your thoughts until you get a win under your belt.

You don’t need a win. That’s in your mind. You need confidence. Be confident in yourself and start sharing. And don’t be afraid of other people and what they think of you. People are going to tear you down and people are going to tell you that no one cares what you have to say until you get a win. Don’t listen to these people.

Start sharing and start winning today.

GOD, YOUR GUT, AND SLOWING DOWN

You’ve heard it, “listen to God,” right? You’ve probably also heard, “listen to your gut”. These are very common. If you listen closely, you can hear these phrases being used several times a day. You probably say them yourself – I use them daily.

As I was writing this, I started having flash backs to just this past week of my wife saying these things to me. I can’t remember if I listened to her, I was probably going to fast. Sad but true.

Listening to God and your gut isn’t an easy thing to do. It takes time. Especially today with the pace at which our society moves. I’m actually in a plane writing this now (that is packed) and people are actively doing a million things.

At a hundred miles per hour, how can we slow down enough to listen to God and our gut? Can it really be done? The answer is yes. It just takes a serious commitment, disciple, and a daily pursuit to slow down and listen.

Who wants to do that? I mean, we have a hundred and one things to do today. We have kids to run, homework to do, dogs to walk, and houses to clean. When would we have time? We need to be making time. I’m trying to make time daily to slow down and listen to God and my gut.

The fact is, we have to many people moving to fast that we’ve lost the importance of listening to God and our gut? And because of this, we have horrible decisions being made. I am guilty of it and so are you. I am also working on it. Are you?

When you stop and actually tap into listening to God and your gut, you start to make better decisions. Decisions that benefit you, your family, your companies, your team, and your country. You want that right?

Slow down and listen to God and your gut.

I WAS BORN RICH

I was born rich. Not with money or even a need for money, but with opportunities and blessings from GOD. You were too. If you think you weren’t, look around you in awe of the beauty and awesomeness!

Because I was born rich and I had a desire to pursue my goals and dreams, I’ve lived an awesome life – and I am just getting started. I have nothing to complain, bitch, or whine about – neither do you.

I’ve had tough times, I’ve lost everything, people have hated me (some still do) but all in all God is good and I’m still rich. And again, so are you. I will get it through to you by the time I’m done writing this.

If you look around you, you probably think, I’m broke, these people are broke, blah, blah, blah. None of that means anything, it’s utterly meaningless. What means anything at all is that you live in a land where you can do anything. Tomorrow morning you could wake up and start a business, learn to fly a plane, go to school, whatever you want. How awesome is that? Pretty fricken awesome!

Just because you were born rich and you can pursue any opportunity doesn’t mean that things are going to be easy. You will have hard times, you may loose everything, people will hate you, it’s all part of it – it’s called life.

Everything that I’ve gotten out of life was obtained through dedication, hard work, and a desire to achieve something greater. You desire to achieve something greater right?

From the time I was born I had a desire for victory and a rich life, meaning victory and richness in life, not as a driver.

Here’s the message for today to all of you who are searching now for something greater. Wherever you may be, whether you’re at your highest or the opposite of that, at your lowest, you must show great strength and determination. Do everything with love and with a deep belief that God created you rich and with a desire for you to do something awesome. One day you’ll achieve your aim and you’ll look back and say, “Thank you God.”

GUIDE TO A GAME CHANGERS LIFE

Do you want to be a game changer? Are you already a game changer? Either way, we need more game changers in the world today. We need people just like you to step outside the tent and do something so big, so impactful that it literally changes the landscape.

There isn’t nearly enough game changers in the world today. Let me rephrase that, there aren’t nearly enough people stepping outside their comfy tent to activate their game changer. Everyone has it inside of them they just need to activate it. I am writing this to help you activate your game changer – that is if you are serious about being a game changer.

No rehashing of old outdated ideas. I am talking to game changers: people who want to come up with something new, something brilliant, something game changing. A game changer doesn’t maintain the status quo, they blow stuff up and get excited about the outcome.

If your sitting at your desk reading this right now thinking, why can I not be a game changer. You can, and I am going to show you how. It’s not nearly as hard as you think. In fact, I’ll let you in on a little secret, it’s simple. All it takes to be a game changer is determination, insanity, and faith that you can do the impossible.

I’ve put together a guide for those of you who want to be a game changer. I only want people who are serious. If you’re not serious, please move along and don’t wast anyone’s time.

Now, if you are serious you can Click here to download the Guide to a Game Changers Life.

After you’ve downloaded the document, read through each question, and fill in your answers in the space provided. Simple. After you’ve filled out the doc, and you 100% believe in what you’ve placed there, it’s time to post it everywhere.

Post it on your bathroom mirror, on your dash board in your car, and anywhere else you look everyday. If you truly want to be a game changer you need to keep your game changing guide in front of you. It is also a god idea to read through your game changers guide each week to make sure that you are on track and holding yourself accountable.

Game changers do the things that others aren’t willing to do. Go and be a game changer.

SCREW THOSE WHO SAY YOU CAN’T

Do you have people in your life that tell you, you can’t? How does this make you feel?

The reason people will tell you that you can’t is because in reality they are the one’s that can’t. Instead of them getting off their ass and going out there and trying something, they would rather sit around and tell you, you can’t. These people suck in my book. You know what I tell these people? Suck it.

Quit listening to the negative Nancies and dream killers and start listening to God and your Gut. You can do anything that you put your mind to and there is nothing, and I mean nothing that you can’t do in this world.

As we come up on 2012, I challenge you to put all naysayers aside, dream big, and go for it. Yes, you are going to fail miserably (I’ve failed so many times I lost count) but that’s just part of the game. You will get back up, brush yourself off and keep going. And in the end, you can look back and be thankful that you stepped out and did something incredible.

STOP WAITING FOR A RAISE: 10 TIPS TO GET YOU STARTED ON YOUR OWN

Sitting at home on the couch complaining about your worthless job? Is it time to step out on your own? I took the time to put together 10 tips to get you started.

1. Create a business model canvas: Research, design, and build one if you want your idea to work. Having a business model is one of the fundamental building blocks of any start-up and necessary to protect your idea, invention and proprietary information.

2. Know Your Market like the back of your hand: Who does your product appeal to and are they willing to buy? Do you appeal to several different customer segments in the market? Are you solving any major problems?

3. You need an idea – What is the idea?:  Have a well designed plan that is executable. It is okay to think big (I prefer you think big), but how are you going to get there, one step at a time?

4. Research and list all Competitors and competitive advantages (Be honest with yourself too): Taking the time to do a competitive assessment can take time, however the time spent here will be well worth it – this is vital to your success. Also, while looking at your competitors define where you sit and how you are going to be different.

5. Financing and budgeting is critical: You need to know what you personally have to spend (Without hurting you and your family), how much you need, where are you going to locate the capital, and how is your idea going to scale – this means revenue streams and a smart business model.

6. Have an exit strategy in mind: Are you planning to sell your company and move onto the next thing? Are you going to pass it on to your kids? Or are you going to try and position your company for an IPO? Think about it.

7. Pick a course and run with it:  Picking a course is always better than swimming around in a circle like an idiot.

8. Protect Yourself before you wreck yourself: How are you going to protect your idea, invention and your proprietary information. Can your idea or product benefit from a patent? If you have the right projection, it can give you an edge in the marketplace.

9. Process makes perfection:  A company without the systems in place to fulfill what it’s selling or producing is preparing itself for a fall – believe me I’ve been there.

10. How is your company structured?:  Think about whether you want to be a shared corporation or a limited liability company. Also, think about where your company is going to operate and where you want to incorporate. What are your future plans for the company?  How do you intend to raise capital?  What is the exit strategy?

Now have fun and get after it. What are you waiting for….a raise? You could be waiting forever.

ITS TIME TO PERSEVERE

It’s time to persevere, and there is no better time than now. Why? Well, let me quick tell you why. The new year is just around the corner and it’s time that we rid all challenges, difficulties, and any past failures and move forward with a positive attitude and outlook on the future.

Today, around the world there are thousands if not millions of innovative leaders that are struggling to do good, meaningful work in a time of overbearing bureaucracy, horrible leadership,  and non stop failing solutions.

If you look around, you will see that everyone is working harder, and in most cases, in greater isolation than ever before.

Between the fast pace of work and life, family, balance, and the fear and anxiety, it is becoming almost impossible to have the energy and enthusiasm to keep going. However, this also means that everyone must stand up, brush off the years of good efforts that have been taken away by events beyond our control, and lets continue our efforts to do and achieve great things despite all difficulties, and failures.

What do you say? Let’s go!
