Instagram Printing Device

If you’re anything like me ( Lets not forget Facebook of course too) and you love Instagram then you’re going to be pumped about this one. The people over at Breakfast – a physical-digital interactive agency (As they refer to themselves) are working on a new Instagram printing device that they hope to bring to market by late summer. It looks pretty rad!

What is the device? It is a small box that they call Instaprint that prints out Instagram photos at events while they are posted. It has embedded technology that can find photos using the event’s hashtag, includes likes and comments when it prints, and uploads the collection to a website for browsing later.

I am sure it’s in the works, but it would be cool if the website allowed you search for photos of you, purchase, and have them sent to you in the mail – everyone loves physical photos of themselves.

Is this something you would like to have at your next event? I do. Then lets help them out. Breakfast is raising funds and gauging interest — on Kickstarter. They hope that, with everyone’s help they can get the price down to $399 – something that more people could afford.

If the funding goes through and they start shipping late summer, each device will be powered by a mini Linux computer, easy to set up through wireless internet and be inkless – the ink comes from the actual paper.

Building landing pages that get the official seal of awesomeness

You might have heard, but people are out there looking for your company. That’s great news, right? And, the new stat is some 90% of people are using search when starting the buying process. This means that you need to be there when they come a looking for you.

Try this. Put together some sweet landing pages that allow you to reach more prospects,  attain more customers, and get the official seal of awesomeness…who doesn’t want that!

Here are 10 things you can do to get your seal!

1. Take the time to build simple (not complicated) templates that focus on a single call to action. This can be download, call, or check out the demo. The more information and bells and whistles you put on the page, the less likely you are to get a new customer. Simple.

2. Create beautiful graphics and don’t let your 5th grader make them. You should include your logo – obviously – and a hero image that is clickable. People will always click on the large hero image.

3. Content is king so don’t clog it up. Get straight to the point. And, give your potential new customer a reason to give you their information. Maybe they get a chance to be entered into something…blah, blah, blah. You get it.

4. Lists are easy to read and people really do appreciate them – I do. The people that visit your landing page are going to do a few things: look at the logo, read the call to action, read your bullet points, and maybe your about or bio. Beyond that, it’s too much.

5. Integrate a form and don’t ask for too much information. You’re not the fricken government. Name, email, description, and maybe a phone number are just fine.

6. Email something back to the potential customer. Maybe a white paper, registration, etc. You want to make sure that you’re not getting a fake email address.

7. Confirmation or thank you pages are nice and they give you one last chance to sell them something. If you don’t try, someone else will.

8. Pretty URLs baby. People and search engines care about your URL. If it’s ugly, no one really cares. If it’s pretty, everyone cares and they’re looking. You should use dashes between words, not underscores.

9. Oh the Meta Data! Even though everything is moving to social search, the search engines still care about the meta. When it comes to the results lists, meta matters.

10. AB Test. Put up a couple of different pages and test them. What works best, A or B? You will then find out what works and what doesn’t work.

Streamlining the investment process

Check out this great new company called CaplinkedIt’s a new tool that streamlines the investment process and gives companies a new way to raise capital and sell assets.

Also, it’s not just built for tech startups, but for all startups. Some of the investments on the site are:  financial services, energy, transportation and food and beverage industries.

Here’s the number that got me excited! The company launched in Oct 2010 and it already has $12 billion in deals.

If your entrepreneur or investor, I say, click on over to the site and check it out.

Note: (To view a deal, would-be investors have to certify that they are accredited investors, institutional investors or advisors to one of the investors.)

Oh, and last but not least, the service is FREE! Who doesn’t love FREE!

How to get people to pay attention to you at dinner

I found out about this on Tumblr a few weeks ago and I’ve been wanting to share it. A San Francisco dancer named Brian ‘Lil B’ Perez and his friends came up with a game to constrain their cellphone use when they’re out having dinner. The purpose of the game was to get people off their stupid phones and engaging in conversation.

I think the idea is brilliant! It can also be used with family, co-workers, your wife, and random meetings – that is if you’re frisky enough to throw this game out there at random meeting. I say try it and see what happens! What’s the worst thing that can happen someone says, that’s a stupid game”, and get’s up and leaves.

I’ve started playing this game with friends and family and it’s a riot! Give it a try and have some fun with it! If anything, it will spark up great conversation about technology and how it impacts our lives today.

Here are the rules to the game:

“Don’t Be A Dick During Meals With Friends.”

The first person to crack and look at their phone picks up the check. Hell yeah, I totally dig this!

The Rules:

1) The game starts after everyone has ordered.

2) Everybody places their phone on the table face down.

3) The first person to flip over their phone loses the game.

4) Loser of the game pays for the bill.

5) If the bill comes before anyone has flipped over their phone everybody is declared a winner and pays for their own meal.

Twists, turns, bumps, and junk. God is preparing you for something great in 2012

Twists, turns, bumps, and junk. It’s the road you’ve been traveling down for some time now. You’re probably ready for it to change. And it is.

Right now, God is preparing you for something great this year and now is not the time to turn around and go back. Don’t do it. Put the car in overdrive and floor it.

Yeah it’s been tough. I get it. I’ve been through some tough stuff too. And you know what? It all happened to prepare me for something bigger and much more awesome than I ever imagined. This same thing is happening to you…right now as you read this. All that crap that you feel like only happens to you, yeah, it happens to everyone. We all go through it. It’s part of this thing we call life. It sucks at times.

Here’s the deal. Everyone’s road has twists, turns, bumps, and junk. We wouldn’t want it any other way….trust me.

Ok, ok, enough of that motivating business. You feel like a beat up pickup truck that just went to hell and back. You’re angry, frustrated and starting to doubt if everything is going to work out. It is…this year.

All those bumps and junk, have just been preparing you for a great year. Put that beat up old pickup truck (or whatever you have) in overdrive and stay at it. Good things are just ahead and God is with you all the way.

WHY I LOVE GETTING MY NEWS FROM A TWITTER LIST

This morning, I was laying in bed thinking, praying, and talking to myself (I do this every morning before I get up) when I reached over and grabbed my iPhone – something I’ve done almost every morning lately.

After reaching over to grab my iPhone, I slid to unlock the phone and the first thing I did was click on the tweetdeck app. Why the tweetdeck app? No specific reason. I also use Hootsuite or the real twitter app too. It’s all preference really.

Now that the phone was unlocked and I was inside the app, I slid the screen over to my twitter list titled “Personal favorites”. My “Personal favorites” list is a collection of people that I feel add value to my life in some way. The list is filled with leaders, pastors, authors, speakers, game changers, visionaries, investors, and challengers. If you’re not one of these people, you’re probably not in my list. No hard feelings.

Everyone should have a twitter list that is built with people who add value to their life. If you don’t have one, create one today. It’s simple, just head over to twitter and start scanning through all the people you follow (Looking for the ones that add value to you) and start putting them into a list. If they don’t add value to you or at least have some relevance, don’t put them in your list. Lists help you stay focused, stay motivated, and get the news and information you need on a daily basis.

Something else I realized this morning while scrolling through my “personal favorites list” (while I was in bed) is that this is where I get “most” of my news and information. I don’t watch TV, I don’t listen to the radio, I often times don’t pull up my bookmarked sites, I just pull up my twitter list and get everything I need right there. Crazy how things change and evolve so fast, right?

Here’s why I love getting my news from my twitter list:

  1. It’s simple
  2. It’s all relevant and based on my interests.
  3. I created it – not the information, but the list.
  4. The articles were shared by intelligent people who I value.
  5. I could do it all from my iPhone in bed.
  6. I didn’t have to leave the app.
  7. Short and sweet

What are your tricks?

HAPPY TURKEY DAY 2011!

Today is Turkey day in the US – that is what I call it, and everyone else, well, they call it Thanksgiving Day. As a result, I will be taking the day off from anything that involves not spending time with family and friends and reflecting on how thankful I am for all the blessings in my life.

I do want to take a moment to say, “have a wonderful day with your family and friends and truly take the time to give thanks for all the blessings you have been given.”

God bless and Happy Thanksgiving to everyone!
