Don’t wait for your first win to start sharing your thoughts

I am confident you’ve thought this before, “Does anyone really care about my thoughts before I get my first win?” No, no one cares. Just kidding. People do care. But, the only way to get them to listen and care is for you to grow some balls and get out there sharing. If you wait for your first win, you could be waiting forever.

A win is gained through consistent confidence. If you can consistently be confident, even in the times when you feel like you are a loser, you will eventually wake up one day with a win. A win doesn’t happen overnight.

These pathetic thoughts are in your mind. You need to extract them before they kill you. You’ve convinced yourself based on what you’ve seen, read, and listened to that you can’t share your thoughts until you get a win under your belt.

You don’t need a win. That’s in your mind. You need confidence. Be confident in yourself and start sharing. And don’t be afraid of other people and what they think of you. People are going to tear you down and people are going to tell you that no one cares what you have to say until you get a win. Don’t listen to these people.

Start sharing and start winning today.

GOD, YOUR GUT, AND SLOWING DOWN

You’ve heard it, “listen to God,” right? You’ve probably also heard, “listen to your gut”. These are very common. If you listen closely, you can hear these phrases being used several times a day. You probably say them yourself – I use them daily.

As I was writing this, I started having flash backs to just this past week of my wife saying these things to me. I can’t remember if I listened to her, I was probably going to fast. Sad but true.

Listening to God and your gut isn’t an easy thing to do. It takes time. Especially today with the pace at which our society moves. I’m actually in a plane writing this now (that is packed) and people are actively doing a million things.

At a hundred miles per hour, how can we slow down enough to listen to God and our gut? Can it really be done? The answer is yes. It just takes a serious commitment, disciple, and a daily pursuit to slow down and listen.

Who wants to do that? I mean, we have a hundred and one things to do today. We have kids to run, homework to do, dogs to walk, and houses to clean. When would we have time? We need to be making time. I’m trying to make time daily to slow down and listen to God and my gut.

The fact is, we have to many people moving to fast that we’ve lost the importance of listening to God and our gut? And because of this, we have horrible decisions being made. I am guilty of it and so are you. I am also working on it. Are you?

When you stop and actually tap into listening to God and your gut, you start to make better decisions. Decisions that benefit you, your family, your companies, your team, and your country. You want that right?

Slow down and listen to God and your gut.

VISION OVER CUSTOMERS

Are you placing a higher value on listening to your customers over creating a vision of how business and products can be done differently? If this is you, as Mark Cuban would say, “You need to have your ass kicked.”

Customers aren’t always the smartest person in the room, so stop building your organization around them. I’m not saying you shouldn’t conduct focus groups and customer insights (these are super important), I’m just saying you shouldn’t build your entire organization around them.

Talking with lots of companies and entrepreneurs, I’ve learned that one of the biggest mistakes you can make is asking your customers what features or services they want to see – this isn’t always the case, just the majority of the time.

Instead of asking your customers what they want, come up with a vision of how business can be done differently, how the game can be changed. Customers don’t always see the value or need until they are slapped in the face with it. And when they try it, they love it and tell their friends!

It’s not the job of your customers to know what they want or need. That is your job. It is your job to study, predict, and create the future. Be a futurist, a visionary, a Steve Jobs.

When you think of customers, you think of people who work a full time job, run their kids around, go to school, along with several other things all wrapped into their day. They don’t have the time to do your job too.

It is your job as the entrepreneur to invent the future and stay ahead of the curve. Look high and low, around corners, inside the box (I will blog about this later), whatever it takes.

Now, go make your customers happy, take care of their needs, and listen to them. Just don’t build your entire company around them.

I WAS BORN RICH

I was born rich. Not with money or even a need for money, but with opportunities and blessings from GOD. You were too. If you think you weren’t, look around you in awe of the beauty and awesomeness!

Because I was born rich and I had a desire to pursue my goals and dreams, I’ve lived an awesome life – and I am just getting started. I have nothing to complain, bitch, or whine about – neither do you.

I’ve had tough times, I’ve lost everything, people have hated me (some still do) but all in all God is good and I’m still rich. And again, so are you. I will get it through to you by the time I’m done writing this.

If you look around you, you probably think, I’m broke, these people are broke, blah, blah, blah. None of that means anything, it’s utterly meaningless. What means anything at all is that you live in a land where you can do anything. Tomorrow morning you could wake up and start a business, learn to fly a plane, go to school, whatever you want. How awesome is that? Pretty fricken awesome!

Just because you were born rich and you can pursue any opportunity doesn’t mean that things are going to be easy. You will have hard times, you may loose everything, people will hate you, it’s all part of it – it’s called life.

Everything that I’ve gotten out of life was obtained through dedication, hard work, and a desire to achieve something greater. You desire to achieve something greater right?

From the time I was born I had a desire for victory and a rich life, meaning victory and richness in life, not as a driver.

Here’s the message for today to all of you who are searching now for something greater. Wherever you may be, whether you’re at your highest or the opposite of that, at your lowest, you must show great strength and determination. Do everything with love and with a deep belief that God created you rich and with a desire for you to do something awesome. One day you’ll achieve your aim and you’ll look back and say, “Thank you God.”

FACE TO FACE

As human beings, we are wired toward interacting (in person) and learning from one another, an easy thing to forget these days now that we have technology that can do pretty much everything we need.

Think about it, we have skype, screen share, social networking: linkedin, twitter, facebook, email, iPhone apps, facetime, virtual assistant, you name it it’s been created or it’s in the process of being created.

In spite of all great technology, things get done face to face. Technology may empower us to get more done faster, but the rubber meets the road when people get together and hash things out in person.

You can probably tell, I am a huge advocate of in person interaction regardless of how unproductive it sometimes seems to be. People can say and think what they want, but people have evolved over many, many years to be efficient at working with, arguing, and talking over ideas and pursuits with people, face to face. Without these face to face meetings would we be where we are at today? Absolutely not.

I love social networking tools and remote technology, but they are nowhere near as efficient as meeting up in person and jamming it out.

So the next time you have the opportunity to meet in person over skype or some other tool, grab your stuff and head out the door. You will be surprised with how much more you can accomplish.

Also, as a reminder add an action step to your calendar each week that says, “Talk and interact with humans in person”.

GUIDE TO A GAME CHANGERS LIFE

Do you want to be a game changer? Are you already a game changer? Either way, we need more game changers in the world today. We need people just like you to step outside the tent and do something so big, so impactful that it literally changes the landscape.

There isn’t nearly enough game changers in the world today. Let me rephrase that, there aren’t nearly enough people stepping outside their comfy tent to activate their game changer. Everyone has it inside of them they just need to activate it. I am writing this to help you activate your game changer – that is if you are serious about being a game changer.

No rehashing of old outdated ideas. I am talking to game changers: people who want to come up with something new, something brilliant, something game changing. A game changer doesn’t maintain the status quo, they blow stuff up and get excited about the outcome.

If your sitting at your desk reading this right now thinking, why can I not be a game changer. You can, and I am going to show you how. It’s not nearly as hard as you think. In fact, I’ll let you in on a little secret, it’s simple. All it takes to be a game changer is determination, insanity, and faith that you can do the impossible.

I’ve put together a guide for those of you who want to be a game changer. I only want people who are serious. If you’re not serious, please move along and don’t wast anyone’s time.

Now, if you are serious you can Click here to download the Guide to a Game Changers Life.

After you’ve downloaded the document, read through each question, and fill in your answers in the space provided. Simple. After you’ve filled out the doc, and you 100% believe in what you’ve placed there, it’s time to post it everywhere.

Post it on your bathroom mirror, on your dash board in your car, and anywhere else you look everyday. If you truly want to be a game changer you need to keep your game changing guide in front of you. It is also a god idea to read through your game changers guide each week to make sure that you are on track and holding yourself accountable.

Game changers do the things that others aren’t willing to do. Go and be a game changer.

SCREW THOSE WHO SAY YOU CAN’T

Do you have people in your life that tell you, you can’t? How does this make you feel?

The reason people will tell you that you can’t is because in reality they are the one’s that can’t. Instead of them getting off their ass and going out there and trying something, they would rather sit around and tell you, you can’t. These people suck in my book. You know what I tell these people? Suck it.

Quit listening to the negative Nancies and dream killers and start listening to God and your Gut. You can do anything that you put your mind to and there is nothing, and I mean nothing that you can’t do in this world.

As we come up on 2012, I challenge you to put all naysayers aside, dream big, and go for it. Yes, you are going to fail miserably (I’ve failed so many times I lost count) but that’s just part of the game. You will get back up, brush yourself off and keep going. And in the end, you can look back and be thankful that you stepped out and did something incredible.

SOCIAL BUSINESS TRANSFORMATION

Are you transforming your business into a social business? It starts from the inside out. You have to take a look at everything from leadership, operations, communications, collaboration, culture, training, etc. It’s not an easy task, it takes on widespread change to evolve into a social business.

Old mindsets and methods are gone – they are out of date and it’s time to take on a full culture shift. The question: are you ready?

If you are, here are a few ways to get started:

1. Mobilize: Mobilize an experienced team (Awesome if it is diverse) that can research, design, implement, and manage a social media plan that has vision.

2. Understand: Research and analyze all the elements needed for the effort to work.

3. Design: Generate and test viable social business options and select best option as a team. Remember, you have to get the vision right and be relevant to your audience and their emotional needs.

4. Implement: After you’ve mobilized the team, understood the elements, and designed the model, go to town and implement that thing. Also, make sure that your colleagues are on board with your conquest or everything could fail.

5. Manage: Manage specific metrics that benefit the whole organization. Prove to everyone in the company that by being a social business everyone wins.

Now it’s up to you, you can decide to transform your organization or you can decide to be run over by the companies that do decide to transform.

BUSINESS EXERCISE: THE SILLY COW

Are you in need of getting your team’s juices flowing about a new idea, business model, or startup? If you are, you should try out an ideation session with a silly, fun warm-up such as the Silly Cow exercise from the book Business Model Generation. It’s a great exercise to get you thinking beyond the typical constraints of old, outdated ideas that honestly..suck.

Here’s how it works:

Instruct participants to sketch out three different business models using a cow. Ask them to first define some characteristics of a cow (produces milk, eats all day, makes a mooing sound, etc.). Tell them to use those characteristics to come up with an innovative business model based on a cow. Give them three minutes.

Keep in mind that this exercise can backfire, as it is indeed quite silly. But it has been tested with senior executives, accountants, risk managers, and entrepreneurs, and usually is a great success. The goal is to take people out of their day-to-day business routines and show them how readily they can generate ideas by disconnecting from orthodoxies and letting their creative juices flow.

I have found the silly cow exercise to be a huge hit and it’s always a good time too. If I were to guess why it works so great, I would say that it challenges you to look at things in a different light. The other cool thing, it even works with serious business people like accountants and attorneys!

Try it out with your teams and let me know how it works.

ITS TIME TO PERSEVERE

It’s time to persevere, and there is no better time than now. Why? Well, let me quick tell you why. The new year is just around the corner and it’s time that we rid all challenges, difficulties, and any past failures and move forward with a positive attitude and outlook on the future.

Today, around the world there are thousands if not millions of innovative leaders that are struggling to do good, meaningful work in a time of overbearing bureaucracy, horrible leadership,  and non stop failing solutions.

If you look around, you will see that everyone is working harder, and in most cases, in greater isolation than ever before.

Between the fast pace of work and life, family, balance, and the fear and anxiety, it is becoming almost impossible to have the energy and enthusiasm to keep going. However, this also means that everyone must stand up, brush off the years of good efforts that have been taken away by events beyond our control, and lets continue our efforts to do and achieve great things despite all difficulties, and failures.

What do you say? Let’s go!
