Can you not see the beauty of suffering?

Suffering has a very negative connotation, would you not agree? When you hear the word suffering you want to run for the hills.

Suffering is not something we often times pray for either. Who wants to experience suffering? Suffering sucks. The pain, the distress – who wants all this?

The truth? We all do. Without suffering, we would have no idea about happiness, wisdom, maturity, beauty, contentment, or perseverance. All of these things happen because of suffering.

“Romans 5:3. Not only so, but we also rejoice in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance”

Does not a sword go through a suffering and beating process to make make it strong, sharp, and beautiful? In the same way the sword goes through this process, we must go through the same process so that we can be strong, sharp, and beautiful.

Lets be honest, we all suffer at some point in our life. Suffering is inevitable. The sooner we accept the pain, distress, death, and sadness are felt by every human to ever walk on this earth, the better our lives will be. Do you not know someone who has suffered?

I can probably think of a few, myself included. Here are just a few ways we all suffer.

  1. The loss of family and friends.
  2. Divorce.
  3. Loss of a job.
  4. Change in a career.
  5. Sickness
  6. Loss of a home.
  7. Serious breakup.

All of these things suck, I have felt some of them, but the beauty that can come of these things is far more beautiful than the actual suffering. Can you think of a time where you suffered and the outcome was far more beautiful than the actual suffering?

“It’s not a matter of if we will suffer but a matter of when, how we respond to the suffering is what matters”

Now I am not not proposing you try and find ways to be in pain. Don’t go out and divorce your wife or do something stupid. Rather, I’m inviting you to suffer with me, so that we can use it to be thankful for the blessings in our lives. Suffering is Gods greatest reminder for what is beautiful.

Even though suffering is not comfortable, it’s not what we make it out to be. Suffering gives us opportunity.

Some of you reading this are probably suffering right now. Maybe you have been suffering for awhile now. I bet it sucks. However, the more you resist the suffering, the harder it will become. Instead of focusing on the suffering, look for the beauty in it. This will cause you to be grateful for what you have.

Don’t run for the hills, embrace whatever you are going through. Pray for suffering, because with each moment of suffering comes a moment of love, truth, and beauty.

When we are able to accept suffering for what it is, and not for what it is not, the word changes entirely. Suffering no longer becomes something negative but something very positive, beautiful, and good.

How do you feel?

Do you see suffering as something beautiful?
