Move your feet, you lose your seat. You have probably heard this before right? We used to say it all the time when we were kids, “Move your feet, you lose your seat, move your feet, you lose your seat”. I remember as kids we would go on and on about this, until literally it became a game.

Now think about this idea from a leadership perspective. Do good leaders focus on this idea that if you move your feet you lose your seat? Or do good leaders focus on loosing their seat and moving their feet?

I think good leaders are the first ones to lose their seats, and their actually very proud to lose it. They could care less about some stupid seat. As a matter a fact, Good leaders don’t lose their seats, they give them away. Why? Because good leaders move their feet and go first. If they sat around they wouldn’t be called leaders, but instead they would be called seat warmers.

“Do not ask God to guide your steps if you are not willing to move your feet.” ~ Jewel Diamond Taylor

Now keep in mind, move your feet type leadership is very rare. I would say the majority of people are so afraid to lose their seats, that they completely stopped moving their feet? They are sitting on the sidelines watching other leaders lose their seat and move their feet.

To be a good leader you must learn to lose your seat and move your feet. Stop worrying about losing your seat, that is what losers do. Losers, sit around worrying about losing their seat to the point that they never do anything with their lives. They Want things to happen, they Watch things happen, but because they don’t move their feet they never make things happen. Don’t be a loser, move your feet.

Have you ever met a leader that sat around worrying about losing their seat? I can probably think of a few. I don’t know If I would call them leaders though.

Leaders are the ones that get up first, give their seat away, and make things happen. You can’t make things happen by sitting around worrying about your seat. You make things happen by getting up off your ass and moving your feet.

Do you not get sick of listening to people talk and talk about things, but never get up off their seat and do anything about it. Nobody ever got anywhere in life by sitting around worrying about their seats. It might have been fun when we were kids, but today we must learn to lose our seats and move our feet if we want to go anywhere in the world.

“You have brains in your head. You have feet in your shoes. You can steer yourself any direction you choose. You’re on your own. And you know what you know. And YOU are the one who’ll decide where to go…”
— Dr. Seuss (Oh, the Places You’ll Go!)

How about you?
