THREE THINGS THAT CAN HELP YOU LIVE A GREAT STORY

Are you living out a great story, or are you living out someone else’s great story? Are you trying to fit into some unrealistic expectations of you? Maybe you have a desire to break away from the norm and do something mind blowing. Is today the day to begin?

Here is what I think. We came into the world with nothing, we leave the world with nothing, why not live out a great story along the way?

Everyday we wake to step out into the world filled with opportunities to live out these stories. The choice becomes ours. I say let’s fill the world with stories, because the day we stop living a great story is the day we begin to feel meaningless and lost. Maybe you are there. What do you say we get up of the couch and make something happen?

Beyond those mountains lies hope, peace, love, redemption, and things that can only be found in living the story.

Last year my wife and I went to Yellowstone National Park. We fit everything in our backpacks and we were off. All we could see was tree tops and snow covered mountains. The air was as pure as the humidifier at Grandmas house. The birds were chirping and the streams were running at full force. And most important of all, my wife was right by my side. I was in Yellowstone heaven!

Over rocks, through streams, and sleeping with bears. It was all part of the great story. We had know expectations leaving the house that day other than cheap camping, eating lots of granola bars, and hopefully meeting some great people.

Everyday brought new challenges, new opportunities, and new people we would have never met. God was there every step of the way. It was almost like living out the history channel. We met some of the most unbelievable people with stories that will pass on for generations and generations. We cooked food in the pouring rain and setup our tent in the pitch dark. Things I would have never experienced if I hadn’t jumped online that day and bought those packs from Cabella’s? Thank God those packs were on sale!

If you are having trouble living out a great story, here are three things that can begin doing today.

  1. Embrace conflict. The natural tendency is to resist or avoid the conflict. This is no fun. Embrace it and make it glorious. “the harder the conflict the more glorious the triumph”—Thomas Paine
  2. Resist the urge to control. Everyone wants to be in control. Control this, control that. Forget control. It’s not necessary when you are living out a great story.
  3. Forget opinion leaders. Everyone has an opinion especially the leaders of these opinions. Forget about them. They are just trying to make them selves feel bigger by making you feel smaller. They are probably just jealous anyway. Tell them to quack somewhere else, you got a great story to live out.

We face these things everyday, right? The problem is we let these things tear us down to the point we stop living a great story. Do you agree? What would the world look like if we started to put these things into practice and really started living them out. I don’t have all the answers, I just know that God is calling me to live out these things in my life.

Discussion Question: How do you feel? Are you living a great story or are you sitting on the couch waiting for something to happen.
