What’s wrong with us? Why do we continue to speed up, only to forget to slow down and ultimately end up on our heads.

I remember when I used to race professionally, my Dad would always say, “son, you need to slow down to speed up.” Then I would go out on the track and end up on my head. I was trying so hard that it was actually hurting me. Literally (broken bones) hurting me. Not until later in life have I begun to realize how powerful a statement this was. Not to just me, but to our whole society.

We are moving at speeds we never intended. Technology, science, health, you name it, it is moving at incredible speeds. This is all great stuff, God wants us to create, but what is happening to us. What is happening to our relationship with God. What does God think of all this?

Are we moving so fast that we are missing God and the things God wants for us? I heard a story today about a CEO who is on his second marriage. He is having a hard time unplugging. He asked a group of men, “how do you unplug at night?” He said he is sitting there on the couch next to his wife and his family, yet doesn’t even realize they are there. Is this what God wants? Is this a healthy speed? What do you think will happen to this marriage?

I think we need to take a hard look at our lives and ask ourselves some very tough questions. We can start by asking, “where do we need to slow down in order to speed up?” I can tell you where it starts. It starts with God. Everything starts and ends with God.

God Bless, and I hope this challenges you to slow down to speed up. From experience, I can tell you this will make you think next time you start to speed up.

Discussion Question: Are you struggling with slowing down to speed up in your life? What are you doing to slow down? Please share with us, we would love to hear.
